Oscars 2012 Nominations Special Part 2

So this is the Part 2 of my personal take on all the Academy Awards 2012 nominations where i'll discuss and give my initial predictions of the 3 categories, Art Direction, Costume Design and Makeup.

Best Art Direction Nominations:

1. The Artist
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
3. Hugo
4. Midnight in Paris
5. War Horse

My Take:
Alice in Wonderland won last year when the frontrunner for best picture The King's Speech was nominated so it isn't always that Academy goes for the frontrunner movie in every category though it seems like. Art Direction is as important and should gets the much needed attention in the movies that takes place in the modern times as it is for the period movies, Hugo has the best shot at winning and no one else is even close to it. I am glad that both Harry Potter and Midnight in Paris are nominated here but Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy should have been too. Hugo have won the most awards in this category if we see the Precursor Awards list and it definitely is going to win.

My Picks:
                   Hugo or The Artist.

Best Costume Design Nominations:

1. Anonymous
2. The Artist
3. Hugo
4. Jane Eyre
5. W.E.

My Take:
This is a category i am not quite sure about becuase it gets a bit mixed up and you have no idea where the Academy will go, for a period movie the costumes are quite lavishing and on a gran scale while gives that much needed feel to a movie. On the other hand it is as important but not quite appreciated or gets the applause for costume design in fantasy/sci fi or in simple contemporary movies. But Academy have most of the time went for period movies while Alice in Wonderland won last year which is a fantasy movie. Each and every movie nominated here is a period flick, W.E is the movie made by Madonna and got terrible reviews and has the least chance of winning. Hugo maybe up there for every single technical category no doubt as it was nominated by everyone in each of them but i am not sure it is a frontrunner here. Anonymous has the Shakespearen age and Queen Elizabeth time era's costumes which are fabulous and does catches your attention but the movie itself is not a good depiction of it so i would call it the potential spoiler. Which leaves us to both The Artist and Jane Eyre, Jane Eyre techincally had the best ones and so did The Artist so i am thinking its a 50/50 situation here.

My Pick:
                 Jane Eyre.

Best Makeup Nominations:

1. Albert Nobbs
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
3. The Iron Lady

My Take:
Okay this year's makeup award should without any doubts go to The Iron Lady which has very impressive Makeup that really helped create the different age looks for Meryl Streep's character and provided her with such ease to play the role with the needed confidence and perfection. I don't think Albert Nobbs had the best Makeup use so instead that, My Week with Marilyn should have been nominated but yes Harry Potter is up there too for all the weird creatures makeup which went to The Wolfman last year.

My Pick:
                 The Iron Lady.
