Oscars 2012 Nominations Special Part 1

              Okay in this Part 1 of my personal take on every category of Academy Awards nominations, i will be discussing on the Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Original Song and Original Score categories. I would say that this is where i have the least knowledge of any category so i wont be able to discuss it in a very deep technical way but just what i think of it right now followed by my final predictions.

Best Sound Editing/Mixing Nominations:

these 4 movies are nominated in both categories:

1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
2. Hugo
3. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
4. War Horse

While Drive is for Sound Editing and Moneyball for Sound Mixing.


My Take:
                   Well this time is very hard to say anything about this category because many of the movies nominated aren't your summer blockbusters or big action movies except of Transformers or maybe War Horse. I would appreciate if they give Drive the Sound Editing as i know it is one of the best things about the movie and Sound Mixing should go to either War Horse or Moneyball and i haven't seen Hugo. I thought Harry Potter and Mission Impossible deserved the nods here too but yeah they weren't nominated. Inception last year won both Sound Mixing and Editing and was quite well done win. Hugo has the chance of winning here for been a frontrunner and a technical marvel at the same time like Inception or Avatar so that maybe an upset or a possibility.

Best Original Song Nominations:

1. Man Or Muppet - The Muppets
2. Real in Rio - Rio

My Take:
                   Okay first of all i am shocked that there are just 2 nominees here! Why? There were some very good songs that could have been nominated, Oscars this year are a joke and this makes it even worse. 2 other songs from The Muppets and the song from The Help should have been added with these two. But anyone that has a real shot at winning is Man Or Muppet which is a fantastic song and very well sung and composed. Real in Rio is a song on celebration which is interesting, fun and cheerful but Man or Muppet pulls the strings of your heart and is emotional yet somewhat funny at the same time.

Best Original Score Nominations:

2. The Artist
3. Hugo
4. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
5. War Horse

My Take:
                  Here comes a category with many snubs, there were so many other great scores this year but Academy once again went for the usual "Nominate everyone from the Best Picture Category" formula which hurts as it isn't necessary to do that. Anyways The Artist is the only clear frontrunner i can see right now and it had a brilliant score and the most well used one too as it is a silent movie so that does have a big impact on the movie. John Williams nominated for both War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, though i think War Horse has a inspirational score which gets too much after a while but still good. Tintin's score sounds too similar to other movies we have seen like Indiana Jones and many others. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy again had the best used score in some scenes and i haven't seen Hugo but the same thing is with it too, its here because of best picture nominee.
