Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards 2015

45 Years

After awarding some rather surprising and surprisingly refreshing choices, LAFCA in a shocking move conformed to the Oscar race status quo. SPOTLIGHT won best picture and screenplay while MAD MAX: FURY ROAD won the most award at 3 for its director, production design and cinematography. A film that did really well today with critics while all three of course went with Spotlight. Its not very often that LA of all group awards a film that goes on to win the Oscar. We will see.

Michael Fassbender finally won something for his performance in STEVE JOBS. A film that was missing from these awards season after its disastrous box office performance. Critics generally responded enthusiastically when it premiered in fall but then god knows what happened. Charlotte Rampling won best actress for her acclaimed performance in 45 YEARS while Michael Shannon won supporting for 99 HOMES. ANOMALISA won over INSIDE OUT as expected while also sharing best score with CAROL. THE BIG SHORT won editing prize. Check out the winners below:

Best Actress: Charlotte Rampling, 45 Years

Best Supporting Actor: Michael Shannon, 99 Homes

Best Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander, Ex Machina

Best Screenplay: Tom McCarthy & Josh Singer, Spotlight

Best Foreign Language Film: Son of Saul

Best Animation: Anomalisa

Best Documentary: Amy

Best Editing: Hank Corwin, The Big Short

Best Cinematography: John Seale, Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Production Design: Colin Gibson, Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Score: Carter Burwell, Anomalisa & Carol

New Generation: Ryan Coogler, Creed
