Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014 Nominations

The nominations for 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced a while ago. The usual and typical aside, there were some shocking snubs and nominations. Delighted to see the cast of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" being recognized for best ensemble whereas films like Gone Girl, Selma, Foxcatcher and Into the Woods are missing. The latter two were my predictions. The SAG members did nominate the two British biopics and the lead frontrunners, "Boyhood" and "Birdman". The biggest surprise in leading actor category came with Jake Gyllenhaal for "Nightcrawler" who I thought was going to be sadly overlooked. Does this mean he should look forward to his name being called again for Oscars nominations? While you have Gyllenhaal and four other usual suspects there, David Oyelowo, whom I predicted wasn't nominated. Supporting category had one big shocker. Who actually thought Naomi Watts would get a nod for "St. Vincent"? Finally, the biggest 'WTF' among the nominees this year is Jennifer Aniston for "Cake". Boy did they pushed her for a nom, good for them. Hillary Swank, Amy Adams... not their day. Very lukewarm list of contenders overall. I just hope somehow, Academy nominations are slightly more appealing, strong and diverse.
