My Academy Awards 2012 (Nominations) Prediction

Well, being just a day away from the announcement of 2012 Academy Awards Nominations, i thought i will post my predictions. Note that all the nominees are placed in a preference manner, like a movie on 5 might be replaced by one of the alternates, i will put 2 or 3 Alternates again in the same way. At the end of every category i will also write a 'What I Want' which will be the nominees i want to see instead of what i think are going to get nominated. I am not quite sure about the technical awards but still i will try and i wont be doing the Short Movie, Short Documentary or Short Animation prediciton which will leave us only 21 categories overall so, here are my predictions.

Best Picture

1. The Artist
2. The Descendants
3. Hugo
4. Midnight In Paris
5. The Help
6. Moneyball
7. War Horse
8. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

9. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
10. The Tree Of Life
11. Bridesmaids
12. Drive
13. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

What i Want:

In the above 8, i wish to see Drive and The Tree Of Life instead of War Horse and The Help.

Best Director

1. Michel Hazanavicius - The Artist
2. Martin Scorsese - Hugo
3. Alexander Payne - The Descendants
4. Woody Allen - Midnight In Paris
5. Steven Spielberg - War Horse

6. David Fincher - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
7. Terence Malick - The Tree Of Life
8. Bennett Miller - Moneyball
9. Tate Taylor - The Help

What i Want:

Bennett Miller instead of Steven Spielberg would make a perfect 5 director block however Fincher and Spielberg are battling it out for the 5th spot.

Best Actor in a Lead Role

1. George Clooney - The Descendants
2. Brad Pitt - Moneyball
3. Jean Dujardin - The Artist
4. Michael Fassbender - Shame
5. Gary Oldman - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

6. Michael Shannon - Take Shelter
7. Leonardo DiCaprio - J. Edgar
8. Demian Bichir - A Better Life
9. Joseph Gordon-Levitt - 50/50

What i Want:

I am perfectly okay with the 5th spot but its hard to predict right now, Academy might want to award a nomination to Oldman as he deserves it but there is Shannon too who won many awards for this movie and is definitely a serious contender and i wish he gets the 5th spot. DiCaprio is from a movie that is rejected by critics and i hardly see Academy recognizing a movie like this even though they love Clint Eastwood.

Best Actress in a Lead Role:

1. Viola Davis - The Help
2. Meryl Streep - The Iron Lady
3. Michelle Williams - My Week With Marilyn
4. Tilda Swinton - We Need To Talk About Kevin
5. Glenn Close - Albert Nobbs

6. Rooney Mara - The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo
7. Elizabeth Olsen - Martha Marcy May Marlene
8. Charlize Theron - Young Adult
9. Kristen Dunst - Melancholia

What i Want:

As much as its a perfect performance, Dunst has a almost no chance of a nomination. I am not okay with the thought that Glenn Close would be given a nomination out of respect considering the movie was quite an average attempt and her performance not quite strong. Wither Kristen Dunst or one of the 2 newcommers Mara or Olsen should get the 5th spot.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

1. Christopher Plummer - Beginners
2. Albert Brooks - Drive
3. Kenneth Branagh - My Week With Marilyn
4. Nick Nolte - Warrior
5. Jonah Hill - Moneyball

6. Patton Oswalt - My Week With Marilyn
7. Andy Serkis - Rise Of the Planet of the Apes
8. Viggo Mortenson - A Dangerous Method
9. John Hawkes - Martha Marcy May Marlene

What i Want:

Honestly i really want either Andy Serkis (mostly him) or Patton Oswalt to take the 5th spot from Jonah Hill, i am not quite sure Academy members would take his performance seriously.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role

1. Octavia Spencer - The Help
2. Jessica Chastain - The Help
3. Berenice Bejo - The Artist
4. Shailene Woodley - The Descendants
5. Melissa McCarthy - Bridesmaids

6. Janet McTeer - Albert Nobbs
7. Jessica Chastain - The Tree Of Life/Take Shelter
8. Vanessa Redgrave - Coriolanus
9. Carey Mulligan - Shame

What i Want:

You know the top 5 are perfect, i am not a McCarthy or Bridesmaids hater but another nominations for Chastain would not be a bad things here. Also i think Carey Mulligan deserves the 5th spot most for her most convincing performance yet in a supporting role.

Best Original Screenplay

1. Midnight In Paris
2. The Artist
3. Bridesmaids
4. Win Win
5. 50/50

6. A Separation
7. Young Adult
8. Beginners

What i Want:

From the very beginning when i saw Win Win, for me that was a lock so i think instead of 50/50 or Bridesmaids (i love both of them screenplay wise) but mainly Bridesmaids, they sould nominate A Separation for a flawless screenplay.

Best Adapted Screenplay

1. Moneyball
2. The Descendants
3. The Help
4. Hugo
5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

6. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

What i Want:

Tinker Tailor faces a competition from Dragon Tattoo and it will depend on the fact that how much Academy likes Tinker Tailor. I found some flaws with The Help so i would want Dragon Tatto to takes it place which is not happening i know that.

Best Animated Movie

1. Rango
2. The Adventures Of Tintin
3. Arthur Christmas
4. Puss In Boots
5. Kung Fu Panda 2

6. Winnie The Pooh
7. Rio

What i Want:

I would want to see Winnie The Pooh instead of Kung Fu Panda 2.

1. A Separation - Iran
2. In Darkness - Poland
3. Pina - Germany
4. Footnote - Israel
5. Monsieur Lazhar - Canada

6. Bullhead - Belgium
7. Superclasico - Denmark
8. Warriors Of thr Rainbow - Taiwan
9. Omar Killed Me - Morocco

What i Want:

I have just seen A Separation from these 9 movies so i really don't know.

2. Paradise Lost 3
3. We Were Here
4. Bill Cunningham New York
5. Undefeated

6. Buck
7. Hell and Back Again
8. Pina
9. Semper Fi: Always Faithful
10. If a Tree Falls

What i Want:

Again i have no idea but i think if they think Pina is more of a documentary which actually it is, they'll nominate it to save a spot for another movie in the Foreign Film category.
