Updated - December 10th
Last year i got 10 out of 10 movies correct in the Best Picture category. i am going to post updated predictions until the nominees are announced so this is just one of the lists.
this list is not just based on the movies that i have seen only but also on the initial reviews and festival buzz. i am worried about the new rules in Best Picture category which will now have anywhere between 5 to 10 nominees.

Color Scheme:
- Green: Strong Contenders according to me.
- Blue: Good Chance for Nomination.
- Orange: Somewhere in the middle right now.
- Red: Maybe a Surprise entry.
Best Picture
1. The Descendants2. The Artist
3. Moneyball
(Moneyball may be loosing a but momentum here but i still think it is a strong movie and would be one of the top choices whereas The Artist and The Descendants are two perfect locks for Oscars.)
4. War Horse
5. Midnight In Paris
6. Hugo
7. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
8. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
(Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close's screenings for Critics should be planned right now as to get the response and as to determine whether or not it is actually a contender but i does see a lot of potential in the movie and would sure be a nominee. War Horse looks epic for the obvious reasons. Not sure how will The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo play with academy members. I am adding Hugo here which i didn't before as it is emerging as a major Oscar contender now that it is been nominated and winning everywhere.)
9. The Tree Of Life
10. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows 2
11. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
12. The Help
13. We Need To Talk About Kevin
(I don't think people should be ignoring The Tree Of Life as it does have a lot of potential. The Help if gets a nomination, i would call it very unnecessary of Academy as i don't think it is great but the predictions by almost every experts is something scary as they think it will eventually. Harry Potter is something i am not sure but i personally want it to get a nod.)
14. Martha Marcy May Marlene
15. Melancholia
16. 50/50
17. Shame
18. The Iron Lady
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a film that has one shot. One mistake, and it sucks. One flaw erupts into a million, so it has to be made perfectly to get good reception. I'd recommend putting it a little lower on your list, but besides that, I totally agree, even with #1, despite my opinion of George Clooney. :P

ReplyDeletei am not sure about Extremely Loud ..... because there haven't been a single screening done for the critics so you are right ... can be a hit or miss but everyone is just so enthusiastic about it so i kept it a little bit higher. but i am going to update every category on 15 of dec. :)
i am glad u commented :)
