October Update - Oscars 2014 Nominations Prediction
It is best I guess to do these at the end of every month. You never know when or where the abundance or lack of "Oscar buzz" takes a movie away. While there is still not much clarity in terms of the race because the critics awards and the major guilds have a lot of time left to start the whole mania, I have simply tried to go with the buzz, track record and my personal opinion. So, The Wolf of Wall Street is indeed in. Foxcatcher and The Monuments Men are going to be released in 2014. The Counselor got bad reviews, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty wasn't well received, the buzz for Labor Day has died. Then there are some significant and worthy indie titles from earlier this year which people are forgetting. Some 'significant' movies with awards favorite directors/actors/technicians which have yet to be seen by the masses. Too much confusion but still, here are my (end of October) Oscar nominations predictions.
Best Picture:-
Frontrunners
1) 12 Years a Slave
2) Gravity
3) American Hustle
4) Inside Llewyn Davis
5) Captain Phillips
6) The Wolf of Wall Street

Gotham Independent Film Awards 2013 Nomination
And so it begins! Gotham Awards are always the first to announce their nominees, the preference here is mostly independent films. Those small gems that are most likely to be overlooked during the hectic and crowded season in two months time. I have yet to review many films from this year and this announcement is likely to give me that push I need.
12 Years a Slave, Before Midnight and Inside Llewyn Davis are the strongest films being nominated in the main category. Ain't Them Bodies Saints is lyrical filmmaking with nothing much to say, though I am not questioning its nomination here. Most happy for Upstream Color, a movie least likely to get the big awards. Blue Caprice is a movie I liked and it has a nice presence here with 2 nominations. Strong picks in the both acting categories and breakthrough sections. And while I haven't seen the movie yet but Scarlett Johansson for Don Jon?

Review: My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
Voice Cast: (Japanese)
Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto, Shigesato Itoi, Sumi Shimamoto, Hitoshi Takagi, Naoko Tatsuka, Tanie Kitabayashi and Toshiyuki Amagasa
Director:
Hayao Miyazaki
Note:- If you guys remember (highly doubt you will), I started a Studio Ghibli marathon more than a year before but somehow couldn't review all of the movies? Well I am doing them now. The ones I have already reviewed might not actually be up to my current standards of writing but what can I do? Maybe I'll re-review them in the future or something but for now, I am continuing right from where I left.
