Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards 2012 Nominations.

Vancouver Film Critics Circle announced their nominees for the year 2012. Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty and The Master were nominated in the Best Film category. Overall the list is very typical but they nominated the 3 best of the best among the most winners of this year's awards season thus far which is great i guess. They also announced separate awards for Canadian movies with notable inclusion being Cosmopolis and Stories We Tell.

Below is the complete list of the nominees:

BEST FILM
Lincoln
The Master
Zero Dark Thirty

Online Film Critics Society Awards 2012 Nominations.

Online Film Critics Society announced their nominees for the year 2012. Holy Motors along with The Master, Moonrise Kingdom, Zero Dark Thirty and Argo were nominated for best picture. Really great to see Holy Motors being given such attention, another important nod that it got was for Denis Lavant for his brilliant performance. There is almost no Silver Linings Playbook or Les Miserables love except for the actresses from it. I like their most of the choices, some really interesting picks but a few are really bizarre ones. Cosmopolis, as much as i love that movie i think there were better screenplays than that to be nominated. Also why Cloud Atlas in that category? But anyway i like that Weisz got nominated again, as well as The Turin Horse, Ann Dowd and Looper in their respective categories.

Below is the complete list of the nominees:

Best Picture
Argo
Holy Motors
The Master
Moonrise Kingdom
Zero Dark Thirty

Oklahoma Film Critics Circle Awards 2012.

Oklahoma Film Critics Circle announced their winners for the year 2012 and they too went for Argo as the best picture of the year while awarding Ben Affleck with the director prize. Moonrise Kingdom won original screenplay, something it deserves so much while Amour won foreign movie prize. They had some extra categories too and i agree with them on the Not So Obviously Bad Movie prize for Prometheus.

Below is the complete list of the winners:

Nevada Film Critics Society Awards 2012.

Nevada Film Critics Society awarded Argo with the best picture prize. Recently since the Zero Dark Thirty's so called "torture scenes" controversy heated up, many of the critics group aren't giving it the main prize anymore. Or is it really because they think Argo is great? Then why the "other" political thriller of the year? Is it because it paints a better and more likable picture? For whatever the reasons are, Argo seems to be catching up a lot faster then i would have thought. Though the best director prize went to both Affleck and Bigelow so that is nice. This critics group sure loved The Sessions as they awarded John Hawkes and Helen Hunt (again in lead rather than in supporting) also tying with Jennifer Lawrence.

My TV in the Year Awards 2012.

Well i normally don't post anything from TV on this blog since its strictly for movies but this is one thing that i always do. This post is where i chose my favorite TV shows i have been watching all year whether new/currently running shows or catching up with older ones so it comprises of both. 2012 was the year when i actually started watching TV with the highlights being Homeland's season 1 at the beginning of the year followed by Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Girls and Fringe among the currently running shows. While from the older ones, i watched complete The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Firefly, Arrested Development and 4 seasons of Six Feet Under among many other shows.

Below are the winners:

Austin Film Critics Association Awards 2012.

Austin Film Critics Association awarded Zero Dark Thirty with Best Picture of the year award while they gave best director to Paul Thomas Anderson for The Master. Yet another back to back win for Looper in Original Screenplay category which makes me more happier than i was and its good for the movie itself. Daniel Day-Lewis didn't win Best Actor but instead they awarded Joaquin Phoenix for The Master. Argo won Adapted Screenplay, The Master won Cinematography and Cloud Atlas won Score. Very interesting.

Below is the full list of the winners:

Best Film: Zero Dark Thirty

Florida Film Critics Circle Awards 2012.

Argo was big winners at the Florida Film Critics Circle Awards, taking home Best Picture, Director for Ben Affleck and Adapted Screenplay. Life of Pi has won many Visual Effects awards now and its safe to say that it will win the Oscar too, Hugo anyone? Looper has won many Original Screenplay awards too and i can just hope it makes it to the Oscars too. The Intouchables won Foreign Language Film which is slightly alarming for Amour since its been winning quite a few awards lately. Supporting Actor category seems to be between Hoffman and Jones while Lead Actress is between Chastain and Lawrence.

Below is the full list of the winners:

Best Picture: Argo

Dallas Fort-Worth Film Critics Association Awards 2012.

Finally, Lincoln won its first Best Picture award this year at the Dallas Fort-Worth Critics Association Awards. Lincoln was also awarded for its 2 supporting and one lead actor while Best Director went to Kathryn Bigelow.

Tabu made it in the Foreign Language category which is a great thing, i loved that movie. The inclusion of Foreign Actors in the Lead Actor category is brilliant. There are some really interesting nods apart from the ones that i mentioned. One of them is Michael Fassbender in Supporting Actor for Prometheus.

It was a big day for Argo yesterday as for the 2nd time it won Best Picture at a Critics Awards. This time it was St. Louis Film Critics who announced their winners. Ben Affleck won Best Director. The Intouchables won over Amour and Wreck-It Ralph over the two stop motion features.

The Master once again won the top prize, this time with the San Francisco Film Critics Circle Awards that awarded it Best Picture and Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. Other surprise winner was Helen Hunt in the Supporting Actress category, she needs to win more awards. Hunt is the most nominated actress so far in the category this year for The Sessions but this is her first win. With The Master claiming the top spot, Zero Dark Thirty won in Best Director category for Kathryn Bigelow and in Original Screenplay for Mark Boal. Emmanuelle Riva won Best Actress for her stunning portrayal of a dying aged woman.

Best Picture - The Master

Kansas City Film Critics Circle Awards 2012.

The Master emerged as the big winner at Kansas City Film Critics Circle Awards 2012. It won Picture, Supporting Actor and Original Screenplay. The Master needs all the love it can get in the Awards Season. It is a divisive film, even more so then The Tree of Life which had huge supporters. Ang Lee won Best Director for Life of Pi while Jennifer Lawrence once again won Best Actress Award.

Houston Film Critics Society Awards 2012 Nominations.

Houston Film Critics Society announced their nominees, Lincoln leads with 8 nods followed by both Les Miserables and The Master with 6. Surprising to see Cloud Atlas in the Best Picture list while Prometheus and Anna Karenina in the Worst Picture. I personally dislike when Critics Awards features a Worst Picture category. Everything else is pretty much the same. Looper again got Screenplay nomination while McConaughey and Bardem got in the Supporting Actor.

Chicago Film Critics Association announced their nominees for the year 2012. The Master leads with 10 nominations while Beasts of the Southern Wild got 9, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty got 8 nominations. I am really happy with the attention given to both The Master and Beasts of the Southern Wild specially in the main categories. Another lovely surprise was seeing Denis Lavant being nominated in Best Lead Actor for his powerful performance in Holy Motors. This is also the second time when Helen Hunt was nominated as lead instead of supporting. While some other newcomers in the acting nominations includes Emily Blunt in Looper and Jason Clark in Zero Dark Thirty.

Argo won big with the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards 2012 with 4 awards including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing. I am a bit late on this but the awards were announced a few days back. Daniel Day-Lewis won what he's been winning throughout this season and Christoph Waltz won Supporting Actor for Django Unchained. Two surprise winners were Michelle Williams for her amazing performance in Take this Waltz and Emma Watson in her surprisingly effective performance in The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Lead and Supporting Categories.

Best Lead Actor went to Daniel Day-Lewis of course, he is winning everything as expected. Anne Hathaway yet again won the Supporting Actress award for her performance in Les Miserables.

HPFA announced their nominations for 2013 Golden Globe Awards. Argo, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi and Django Unchained got nominated for Best Picture Drama while Les Miserables, Silver Linings Playbook, Moonrise Kingdom, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and a surprising Salmon Fishing in Yemen got nominated for Best Picture Comedy or Musical. Salmon Fishing also got nominated in Actor and Actress categories of Comedy/Musical with Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt. The Master, Beasts of the Southern Wild failed to get nominated in Picture category. In Best Lead Actor Drama category, Richard Gere got nominated for Arbitrage which is well deserved and i hope he gets notice more for his brilliant performance in the movie now. A very wonderful surprise specially for me was Rachel Weisz's nomination in Lead Actress Drama category for The Deep Blue Sea, you all know i loved her in that movie.

Apart from Jack Black got nominated for Lead Actor Comedy or Musical for his wonderful performance in Bernie which is again a superb choice. Django Unchained got a big boost for sure because it was nominated in Picture, Director, Screenplay and then both Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio got nominated in Supporting Actor category. ParaNorman was snubbed in favor of Hotel Transylvania in Animated category while Kon-Tiki made a surprising appearance in Foreign Language Film category along with the other predicted ones.

19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards 2012 Nominations.

A few moments ago early morning, the nominations for 2012 Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards were announced. The biggest snubs includes Joaquin Phoenix for The Master, Emmanuelle Riva for Amour and Amy Adams for The Master. There were some notable surprises too like Nicole Kidman getting nominated in Supporting Actress category for The Paperboy and Javier Bardem getting nominated in Supporting Actor category for Skyfall which i somehow expected but wasn't sure. I knew that they will love The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and not The Master, Moonrise Kingdom etc. I heard about some Screener problem with Django Unchained too and to those who were expecting Zero Dark Thirty ensemble nod, well Jessica Chastain is the only actress that really holds the movie she is the best part about it. In Best Actress category, Helen Mirren for being Helen Mirren got in as well as Naomi Watts for The Impossible thanks to the promotional campaign for the actors in that movie by some of the industry members. Maggie Smith was really good in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and i am happy for her nomination.

Below is the full list of nominees:

ARGO (Warner Bros. Pictures)
THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (Fox Searchlight)

18th Annual Critics Choice Awards 2012 Nominations.

Well today, the nominations for Critics Choice (or Broadcast Film Critics Association) Awards 2012 were announced. Lincoln leads with 13 nominations (a record) followed by Les Miserables with 11 Silver Linings Playbook with 10, Life of Pi with 9 while Argo, The Master and Skyfall tied with 7 nominations each. If you look at the nominations for acting categories, it looks like this is what the Academy might go with. Actors from Skyfall like Judi Dench and Javier Bardem got in too and also Matthew McConaughey got nominated for Magic Mike. Both Flight and Looper showed up in Original Screenplay category while the much deserving The Perks of Being a Wallflower got nominated for Adapted Screenplay as well. Just like Peoples Choice, they have separate categories for Action/Comedy/Sci-fi-Horror too! I am overall pretty pleased by their picks and it might just present a clearer much closer account of what the actual Oscar race might turns out to be.

Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards 2012 Nominations.

Phoenix Film Critics Society announced their nominations, there are just too many categories. A rather long and exhaustive list but still there are some surprises. Both The Avengers and Skyfall are nominated in Best Picture, i am happy for the later. Anthony Hopkins received his first nomination of the year for Hitchcock in the Lead Actor category and so did Mary Elizabeth Winstead (that will be in a Critics Awards) for her performance in Smashed. The growing love for Javier Bardem, Judi Dench both in Skyfall while Ezra Miller and Emma Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower continues.

Take a look at the full list of nominations:

Detroit Film Critics Society Awards 2012 Nominations.

Detroit Film Critics Society announced their nominations for the year 2012. Movies like The Impossible and Take this Waltz also made it in Best Picture category alongside Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook. Other "hats off" worthy choices includes Sarah Polley being nominated for Take this Waltz, Michelle Williams for the same movie, Greta Gerwig, Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor etc. And i also believe this is the first Lead Actor nomination this year for Bill Murray in Hyde park on Hudson.

Below is the full list of nominations:

Best Picture

Argo
The Impossible
Silver Linings Playbook
Take This Waltz
Zero Dark Thirty

St. Louis Film Critics Awards 2012 Nominations.

The film critics of St. Louis announced their nominations. There are some rather interesting choices i must say, inclusion of Best Scene category is really good. Amour is absent from the Foreign Picture category while the additions of Cabin in the Woods specially in Original Screenplay is rather pleasant. Seven Psychopaths also made the cut and i am really pleased to see The Perks of Being a Wallflower getting so much attention in Adapted Screenplay category. They have uneven number of nominees, 5 in some and 6 in others. Bruce Willis, Audrey Plaza, Jamie Foxx etc are getting their first nominations for their respective movies this year. I don't know how will the Supporting Actress category shape up but Emma Watson have recently been receiving many nominations for her work in Perks, Ezra Miller too but he isn't nominated.

In the remaining three acting categories, Daniel Day-lewis won for Lincoln, Philip Seymour Hoffman won for The Master while Anne Hathaway won for Les Miserables. I am really happy to see Looper winning Best Original Screenplay second time this year. The winners here largely followed the same arc, Silver Linings Playbook won for Adapted Screenplay which is something Lincoln has been winning a lot.

San Diego Film Critics Society Awards 2012 Nominations.

San Diego Film Critics Society announced their nominees for the Best in the Year 2012. Django Unchained seems to be appearing on many lists slowly and here it got nominated for Best Picture which is a good thing. The Master also made the list alongside Argo, Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty but no Lincoln. Some interesting nominations include 3 nods for The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Adapted Screenplay, Ensemble and Supporting Actress nod for Emma Watson but then no Ezra Miller. Furthermore, Helen Hunt made the actress list not supporting while Take this Waltz (a movie i love) got into Original Screenplay and Best Actress for Michelle Williams.

Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards 2012.

Los Angeles Film Critics Association just awarded the best movies in 2012 and as usual, they went with some really interesting, bold and edgy choices. Amour won Picture while Paul Thomas Anderson won Director for The Master. Joaquin Phoenix won Actor while there was a tie between both Emmanuelle Riva and Jennifer Lawrence. Very interesting choices in Supporting category, Amy Adams and much deserving Dwight Henry won for their performances in The Master and Beasts of the Southern Wild. Best Foreign Film however didn't went to Amour but to Holy Motors, interesting, sharing the love (wealth). Overall i think they have so far produced a wonderful list of winners that feels literally their own choices, they aren't inspired by the buzz. Zero Dark Thirty will still however win though i would love to see Amour making the Best Picture Oscar line-up and with them awarding The Master in many categories, i hope critics really award a movie that is one of its kind. They shouldn't think like the academy of any kind i mean they are critics!

Below is the full list of winners and runner-ups:

Best Film: Amour

New York Film Critics Online Awards 2012.

New York Film Critics Online just finished announcing their winners for 2012 movies with Zero Dark Thirty leading yet again and winning Best Picture and Director for Bigelow. Once again, i am happy at Emmanuelle Riva winning Best Actress now second time in a row. Beasts of the Southern Wild seems to be winning every Breakthrough Performance awards and most of the First Feature or Debut Directors Awards. Mark Boal won for his screenplay of Zero Dark Thirty this time and Supporting Actor/Actress category seems to be favoring mostly Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Hathaway.

Below is the full list of winners:

Best Picture: Zero Dark Thirty

Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow – Zero Dark Thirty

Boston Society of Film Critics Awards 2012.

Boston Society of Film Critics announced their winners for the year 2012, the previous ones were the online group from Boston. Its no surprise anymore that Zero Dark Thirty/Kathryn Bigelow won Picture and Director respectively. But i am really happy that Emmanuelle Rive won best actress for her astounding performance in Amour which also won Foreign Language Film. The biggest surprise was Ezra Miller winning Supporting Actor for Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Below is the full list of winners and the runner ups:

Washington DC Area Film Critics Awards 2012 Nominations.

Washington DC Area Film Critics announced their nominations for 2012. Argo, Les Miserables, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook were nominated as best film. Though i personally don't like when Critics announces nominations instead of directly announcing the award winners but if you look at the line-up it really looks like what Academy might go with somehow. This looks pretty darn close to what we think Academy is going to go with as of now. I don't see any big surprises, nor any big snub.

Below is the full list of the nominees:

Dec 8, 2012

Boston Online Film Critics Association Awards 2012.

Boston Online Film Critics Association announced their winners for 2012. Zero Dark Thirty once again emerged as a winner with Kathryn Bigelow also winning Best Director for the movie. This awards season seems to be following the same path as The Social Network did as per many other people, will Academy award another Bigelow movie or will they go for some feel-good or inspirational movie? Only time will tell but Critics seems to be falling all over Zero Dark Thirty. Daniel Day-Lewis, Jessica Chastain, Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Hathaway won in the acting categories. While the Amour snub is surprising, they did included Holy Motors and Oslo, August 31st. Roger Deakins got the deserved Cinematography award while Johnny Greenwood won for his score in The Master.

National Board of Review Awards 2012.

The Winners for this year's National Board of Review Awards were announced just a few minutes ago. Zero Dark Thirty once again won Best Picture and Director for Kathryn Bigelow after New York Film Critics Circle did the same 2 days back. Now this makes Zero Dark Thirty the frontrunner for Best Picture Oscar alongside Lincoln and Argo. Ann Dowd won Supporting Actress for Compliance which should easily put her on the map for he stunning performance, i have still to see the movie. Other notable surprised were Bradley Cooper winning for Lead Actor and Rian Johnson win for Original Screenplay (Looper). Looper should be considered for that award by the Academy as well in my opinion.

Below is the full list of winners and their top of the year lists:

New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2012.

New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners of the best in 2012 today. Miserable people like me had their eyes fixed on their Twitter timelines as the awards were announced over a course of 4-5 hours. Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln both won 3 awards each. Zero Dark Thirty won Best Picture, Director for Kathryn Bigelow (her second here after The Hurt Locker) and won Best Cinematography. It was no less than a surprise when this happened since Lincoln, The Master or Les Miserables were favored to win but still Zero Dark Thirty was somewhat expected to take a few awards. The biggest shocker for most but a delightful surprise for me was Rachel Weisz winning Best Actress for her stellar and brilliant work in The Deep Blue Sea. I was really rooting for her to get such kind of a recognition hoping that it might put her on the radar of the Academy or at least people. Daniel Day-Lewis as expected won for Lincoln in the category Best Lead Actor. Supporting Actor was predicted to go to Philip Seymour Hoffman but they awarded Matthew McConaughey instead for Magic Mike and Bernie.

Sally Field won Best Supporting Actress for Lincoln while both Amour and Frankenweenie won in Best Foreign Film and Animated film as expected. Tony Kushner was awarded for his superb work as the screenwriter of Lincoln. With this, the award season for the year is now officially started with many more critics circles and organizations to award throughout this month. New York have always been the most important of them. Looking forward to an amazing award season this year.

My Review for "THE TURIN HORSE".

Cast:
Janos Derzsi, Erika Bok and Mihaly Kormos.

Director:

                   Bela Tarr.

Review:

The Turin Horse is a 2012 movie from the Hungarian director Bela Tarr and it is suppose to be his last movie. The famous and well respected director of well known movies like Satantango and Werckmeister Harmonies said goodbye to his directorial career with this movie, kind of hard to believe something like that. The Turin Horse marked the first time i watched any of his movie, what an unforgettable experience it was.
